To You

In the gloom o’ solitude

I shut my soul no more

I’ve commended to you

Heart’s deepest core.

As blank glaciers thaw

When vernal zephyrs pipe

Wither my murky sores

Your placid smiles.

As sky-larks would disguise

When chanting hallowed psalms

Your Beauty of inner mind’s

Subtly lamped.

Your eyes’re mild, your mien’s calm

They thus mellow my dismay

Compassion’s scents – your pure charm

Ne’er fade away.

I braid into this lay

The Moon’s delicate threads

Ardour through th’ passing days

Shily-expressed.

Fond o’ you since we first met

Dawn-rays glowed from your cheeks

Gently fell on th’ jetty tress

Life’s rosy leaves.

Soft as a willow tree

You – I paint with poetry

Dreamy as a misty mead

‘Tis what I see!

For Love is to set free

Though I adore you deep

You to me if I dare keep

How selfish ‘tis!

Unalloyed Love – I believe

With my breaths, pulses, an’ thee

I’d love you at a distance

Till your glee breaks me…

into fragments.
